Canadian Plastics Industry
Association
CPIA was formed in 1997 as part of the restructuring of existing plastic industry associations. It builds on the strengths of its predecessors including the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI), the Canadian Plastics Institute (CPI) and the Environment and Plastics Institute of Canada (EPIC), as well as a number of regional organizations. CPIA's mission is to advance the prosperity and international competitiveness of the Canadian plastics industry in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.
As an industry association, CPIA is committed to serving its members and the Canadian plastics industry. It offers a wealth of resources including knowledgeable and experienced staff, a highly respected technical information centre, access to a specialized network of industry experts, plus the combined strength of its membership of about 500 companies.
CPIA President and Chief Executive Officer Pierre G. Dubois has over 35 years of experience in the plastics industry including leadership positions with many industry organizations. Denis Lauzon, President and CEO of Dow Chemical Canada Inc. in Calgary, Alberta, chairs CPIA's inaugural board of 22 members.
The national office is located in Mississauga, Ontario and CPIA's five regional offices are located across Canada to serve the regional interests of members in the Atlantic provinces, Quebec, Ontario and the West.
As part of its national and regional mandate, CPIA offers 11 councils in which member companies can participate. Councils consist of CPIA members that have come together through common interests or goals to work on industry issues, needs and opportunities. These include the Automotive, Construction, Environment and Plastics Industry, Expanded Polystyrene, Flexographic, Machinery, Mould Makers, Packaging, Reinforced Plastics/Composites, Vinyl, and Plastic Film Manufacturers Councils.
Two strategic areas of activity were identified during the restructuring process leading to the creation of strategic units, namely Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) and Industry Competitiveness. EH&S addresses issues related to the impact of R&D, manufacture, use, recovery and disposal of plastics on human health, safety and the environment. Competitiveness addresses issues related to trade, training and technology.
CPIA strives to integrate both innovation and leadership - ensuring that its member companies have the information and resources they need to remain on the leading edge of the Canadian plastics industry.
